Congratulations to Bark For Life Event Winners

Congratulations to Shelly and Jerry Lee Leaper, winners of the first Wiener Dog Nationals presented by Paws & Remember event of the season at Monroe, Michigan’s Bark For Life.

It was a bit of a chilly late summer morning, that was heated up by the on-track racing action! Heat race winners in the lighter Frankfurter division were Banjo (1), Jerry Lee Leaper (3) and Ziggy (2). Heat race winners in the Bratwurst Division included Shelly (3) and McGee (2).

Jerry Lee Leaper continued his winning ways with the win in the Frankfurter Finals over Banjo, Ziggy and Charles. Shelly finished off the day in the Bratwurst Finals with a win. Oscar matched his best performance of the day with a second place finish. Sandy was third and McGee had an off race and finished fourth.

The Championship points have been updated and reflect a close race among the competitors in the Bratwurst division with Shelly nursing a five point advantage over both Sandy and McGee. Jerry Lee Leaper earned a four point advantage over Banjo in the Frankfurters.

Two championship points events remain with the next one coming up on Saturday, September 27 at the W.W. Knight Nature Preserve in Perrysburg, OH. Get registered today!

2014 Schedule Coming Together

The 2014 Wiener Dog Nationals race calendar is coming together and will be finalized soon. Our first race is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, September 13 in Monroe, Michigan at the Bark For Life benefitting the American Cancer Society. The next event will be at the Mutt Strut in Perrysburg, Ohio on Saturday, September 27. Still working on our final event at Oakshade Raceway near Wauseon, Ohio on Saturday, October 4 which will wrap up the first ever Wiener Dog Nationals Championship for dogs competing in all three events. Check out the Event Calendar for more details. Entries will open up for all events in June.

Also new this year will be a revised race format that will allow for more races for each dog at each event and the elimination of the semi-final round. We hope this will also lessen the duration of each event with less downtime. More details can be found on our Rules page.

We are also looking for sponsors for this year’s events. All money collected cover event expenses and the rest is given to the non-profit beneficiary of that event. Please check out the Sponsorship Information page if you are interested in helping out this great event!

Welcome To Our New Web Site!

Welcome to the new (and hopefully permanent) Wiener Dog Nationals online home…WIENERRACING.COM! We have big plans for 2014! First and foremost, a new race schedule format. In hopes to eliminate down time between rounds, races will continue non-stop with only an intermission to tally scores to determine finalists. Also, the semi final round has been eliminated. Dogs reaching the finals will be based on scores with an additional “Last Chance” race. This new format will allow for more races for each participating dog. More details are available on the RULES page.

The first ever Wiener Dog Nationals Championship series of three events is also being worked on. The plan will be for dogs entered in the Championship Series to accumulate points from each event with the crowning of the champion at the conclusion of the final event of the season tentatively schedule for the first weekend in October, 2014 at Oakshade Raceway near Wauseon, Ohio.

More details will be posted here at wienerracing.com over the next few months as it becomes available.
